Astrojax Thanksgiving Sale

 Astrojax-Turkey-2

MX-Orange

Woodyo

$3-Kens

We’re not your mom, so we’re not going to tell you that you should be thankful. We’re just going to have a ginormous Thanksgiving Sale and leave you with this: “I hate turkeys. If you stand in the meat section at the grocery store long enough, you start to get mad at turkeys. There’s turkey ham, turkey bologna, turkey pastrami. Someone needs to tell the turkey, ‘man, just be yourself.” -Mitch Hedberg

Jax-o-lanterns are BACK from THE VAULT

Jax-o-Lantern-2

Ah, THE VAULT, that hidden destination where we relegate our favorite creations to banishment for being TOO awesome.

But that’s the funny thing about the abyss; every now and then after you’ve thrown enough things in, something gets thrown BACK… and that thing is our fan-favorite Jax-o-Lantern Astrojax! If you remember, these ghastly Astrojax feature two white MX Pops flanking a candy-corn orange MX Pop in the center. And it’s all tied together with neon orange string, black cores, and orange string buds!

We’re happy to have them back (mainly because Josh wouldn’t shut up about them) and hope you are too! Also, don’t forget that you can win a set of these for FREE if you come out on top in our latest contest!

So Happy Halloween everyone, and we hope you’re as happy to get your hands on these jolly Jax-o-Lantern Jax as we were in re-releasing them! But act fast, because while they may have escaped for now, there’s no telling when their exodus will come to its end and they’ll again be confined to THE VAULT!

Announcing the Everyone’s a Winner uh, WINNER!

Contest_everyonewins

Alrighty boys and girls, each and every one of you that entered automatically won (that was kind of the idea so click here to see what you missed). But as you know, even among champions one must stand taller than the rest. So who is the master of the Jax that we choose to win the Everyone’s a Winner contest? Why, Chris Palmer! Let’s take a look at his submission!

Don’t get us wrong, it wasn’t easy to select only one out of all of our excellent entries, but at the end of the day Chris’ skill (and sick dance moves) won out and he finds himself the recipient of:

So congratulations to Chris and thank you to everyone who took the time to enter and don’t forget to check back in at our contests page often for the latest and greatest! Or you can like our Facebook Page if you really wanna.

’til next time, Jaxologists!

Announcing Astrojax Neon Pop

Neon_POP_Astrojax

Hey everybody it’s that special time again where we all gather around the campfire to listen to old gramps spin another yarn about a rootin’ tootin’ SPECIAL set of Astrojax! Thankfully, this won’t involve a fabled treasure map nor any awkward ‘pull my finger’ jokes. That’s because we’re prepared to announce the latest and greatest in Jaxological advancement right here and now through your view screen!

Remember that time when you stole your neurotic friend’s dad’s Ferrari 250GT California, busted your girlfriend out of school and spent the whole day having wacky adventures throughout the greater Chicago area? No? That’s ok, because we’ve got an equally impressive piece of hardware for you that will ALSO tickle your fancy for the 80s.

Behold, the Neon POP. This electric monster rocks a bright yellow string with neon orange buds and super bright yellow balls flanking an orange center. Much like the 250GT California only a limited number will be made and at the risk of sounding cliche’ they are SO choice and if you have the means I’d highly recommend picking one up.

Introducing Fire & Ice – Our May/June EXCLUSIVE Jax

Fire and Ice

What combination could possibly be diametrically opposed and yet allow us to delve into Game of Thrones imagery for unlicensed promotion? If you guessed Fire and Ice then congratulations, you champion of nerd knowledge because you just uncovered our latest and fast-expiring new Astrojax!

First up? Fire.

Sure, the name is succinct, but the style is anything but. These MX Sport balls connected via blazing red string with Stringbuds to match offer a fantastic contrast when used outdoors and generally look amazing. Look, we already know you’re killin’ it with your enviable Astrojax skills; but now you can quite literally kill it with FIRE!

Oh yeah, we went there.

Oh yeah, we went there.

But, on the flip side of things for those of you who appreciate the serene look of a calmer set of Jax, look no further than Ice. Clean, cool, and a sly declaration of unerring sophistication. These MX Pop balls coupled with ice blue string, white core, and matching blue buds offer a stark contrast indeed to Fire.

Speaking of which- what will it be? Fire? Ice? Is it too much to ask for both?
No, Tony, it's not.

No, Tony, it’s not.

That’s why, for the first time EVAR we’re offering both Fire AND Ice not just individually for those of you who prefer one to the other, but in a combo pack with both sets for a reduced price! Just head over to our store and hit the drop-down to pick your option.

But, as cool and unique as our combo deal is, it’s not enough to rescue Fire OR Ice and both will head to The Vault in time to join the rest of our exclusive ‘Jax, never again to be released unless certain conditions are met…

Stay tuned!

The 10 Best Moments from Toy Fair 2013

Top-Image

Last week we posted about our time at the NYC Toy Fair briefly but stayed pretty busy running around checking out all of the sites and sounds of one of the most magical conventions on earth. But now, having settled in and emptied our memory cards thusly it’s time to show you a bit of all the sights we got to experience at one of the toy industry’s biggest events.

So, rather than blather on let’s just get right to number 10!

10. SEEING JOSEPH R. GANNASCOLI

Toy-Fair_10

You might remember him as Vito from the Sopranos, but it was pretty surreal just seeing him walk up out of nowhere with arms full of Toy Fair swag. Having only seen him in The Sopranos myself it was like seeing the character walk up, especially considering he was decked out in a NY Rangers track suit. It’s just one of those things that you don’t expect and at an event like this is just commonplace.

9. GARY JUGGLING OUR ILLUMINATED BALLS

Toy-Fair_9

We know, har har very funny but in truth Gary Auerbach is a professional skill toy player, a self-described “Playcologist”, World Frisbee Champ… and seeing him in his element was awesome. Especially so since the Boing look pretty rad on their own.   Thanks Gary!

8. OOGLING DIAMOND’S TOYS

Toy-Fair_8

If you’re not familiar, Diamond is almost the sole distributor of all of your comics worldwide. However, they also have an incredible collection of comic and superhero related statues, action figures, accessories, and the like. Above are just one of the photos (that we’re allowed to show) and I don’t want to say an Arkham Game was CONFIRMED, but I’ll remind you that’s a blockbuster franchise and Batman fans shouldn’t be disappointed this year ;)

7. HANGING OUT WITH THE SPOONER GUYS

Toy-Fair_7

Trying to relive his glory days of skating and surfing, Jim not only took the Spooner for a spin but didn’t end up dying in the process. Needless to say the guys that make the Spooner Board are far better at it than we are but it was still an awesome product to check out and if you live anywhere near rolling hills this should be on your list to check out.

6. SKYLANDERS SWAP FORCE

Toy-Fair_6

I’m a fan of Skylanders though not as hardcore as I should be. First off, the Skylanders Booth was MASSIVE in the way you think of planets and such. It took up an entire corner of the convention hall and consisted of a bona-fide castle being built and a larger-than-life pirate ship with rolling ocean carpet and Skylanders as big as an NBA player. Unfortunately we weren’t allowed to show off the footage we got but Skylanders fans should be RABID for this one when it makes its debut later this year.

5. THE KENDAMA CREW KILLS IT

Toy-Fair_5

If you’re not familiar with Kendama, stay tuned because soon you will be. But for now, go check out Kendama USA to get an idea of what this feudal Japanese toy is like and its recent resurgence. The players from Kendama USA in addition to being a great group of people also aren’t shy at all about showcasing their skills with their particular skill toy of choice. You can check out video here, and we’ll be selling them in our own store soon.

4. CHECKING OUR NINTENDO WORLD

Toy-Fair_4

I realize as a representative of a skill toy and associated subculture it may be uncouth to talk about video games but I’m sorry, a lot of us are also unashamed geeks and walking through the doors of Nintendo World was like stepping into Mecca for gamers. Everything from exclusive Nintendo World swag like Pokemon plushes to a bona fide Nintendo museum chronicling the entirety of the Nintendo run all the way through the Wii U was there and I could hardly contain my excitement (as evidenced by the stupid photo above). If you’re a gamer at all and you’re in NYC you must visit Nintendo World.

3. MYACHI BEING PLAYED WITH AN iPHONE

Toy-Fair_3

If you aren’t familiar with Myachi, it’s similar to hacky sack though your hands are fair game. Well, except for the palms anyways. We’ve talked about it on here before but can’t do it justice as well as Cody from Myachi.com does. In the absence of a second actual Myachi bean bag he started using someone’s iPhone instead with nearly the exact same efficiency you’d expect. It was dazzling and awe inspiring to say the least and made me want one bad.

2. HANGING OUT WITH LARRY

Toy-Fair_2

It’s one thing to enjoy playing with Astrojax, but another thing to enjoy them in the presence of the creator himself, Larry Shaw. Larry was running around Toy Fair with us as well, taking every opportunity to demonstrate our favorite toy and even show us a thing or two.

1. A NEW PADDLEBALL APPROACHES

Toy-Fair_1

Alright, we can’t talk specifically about the design, but ACTIVE PEOPLE gave us a sneak peak at the next generation Paddleball which allows for an entirely new way to play. That’s intriguing on its own considering the basic design of a toy like this hasn’t changed in its design or really even presentation for many decades. Getting to see the absolute innovation of a toy that’s been a mainstay for multiple generations of kids was just kind of this surreal moment where you realize you’re at the essence of what Toy Fair’s all about, and that’s why it’s number 1.

What toys and games are you excited about for 2013?

USAJ in NYC FTW

Astrojax in NYC

It’s that magical time of year where Jim hurries around securing travel arrangements and board while Jason and I work out the particulars of coverage at Toy Fair!

We’ll be posting updates periodically but for now suffice it to say that we’ve arrived safely and are staying in a nice hotel in Hoboken, ready to check out all the sights of Toy Fair at the Javits Convention Center first thing in the morning. While there’s certain to be skill toys abound (including everyone’s favorite, Astrojax), we couldn’t be more thrilled to scope it out and share it with you all.

So, before my Red Bull-fueled buzz wears off I’m going to sign off, but make sure you stay tuned over this week as we bring you some news from the floor!
